Guided wildlife photographic safari. Kiskunsag National Park, Hungary
About this safari
David Plummer, in collaboration with the Kiskunsag National Park, has gained special access for the duration of the stay to this, an entirely new, wildlife hotspot in Eastern Europe. At this time of year thousands of migrating birds are either passing through or stopping to breed in the rich tapestry of habitats from marshland to woodland to grassland of this little visited National Park just 90km south of Budapest. Thousands of waders stop to feed or drink just feet from the hides. Alongside them white-tailed eagles come down to consume stranded fish or, in the woodlands, woodpeckers fly for their lives as goshawks bank through the clearings.

Other features and target species on this tour are brown hare, roe deer and other mammals, as well as the landscapes and flora of the region. Brown Hares have been very successful over recent years and we set up mobile hides at dawn and dusk in key locations every day of the tour, especially for hares, usually a difficult species; hares have been coming so close to the hides that sometimes photographers are having difficulty focusing on them!
With a maximum of 6 people we have use of at least 9 hides including waterside hides, drinking pool hides as well as hides for bee-eaters or woodpeckers, and a tower hide for a colony of red-footed falcons. Most hides are mobile to allow optimum positioning for the conditions or the subject’s behaviour.
Full photographic instruction will be given, along with presentations on how to improve your technique or composition. You will potentially learn a huge amount from this unique opportunity in an area where you will probably not see any other tourists for the duration of your stay.
Please be aware, this excursion involves early mornings and possibly two or three hours mild discomfort in the hides. The results, however, are truly astounding and make any discomfort worthwhile!
The tour price includes food, accommodation and ground transport. Accommodation is in a beautiful lodge, ideally situated in the centre of the region. Packed breakfasts will be provided at the hides. Evening meals will be taken at the local village restaurant.
